What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not how it is often depicted in films which are almost invariably inaccurate albeit sometimes very entertaining.

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention during which suggestions can be made to create beneficial changes in ideas or behaviours. Hypnosis is not sleep, you do not black out and you remain fully aware of everything going on around you. At lighter levels it is not much different to daydreaming.

Hypnotic trance is a completely natural state that everyone of us has experienced because we pass through it before falling asleep or on waking up. Other examples of a hypnotic trance include becoming completely absorbed in a book or film so you don't hear someone speaking to you or not remembering the journey home after a long drive because your c=subconscious took over.
